Why should we choose Rick Dean Photography?

Since Charleston, SC has become the second most popular wedding spot in the country, you may be asking yourself why you should choose Rick Dean Photography over the countless other wedding photography agencies in the area.

Well, the answer is simple. Most importantly, we have some of the best professional photographers in all of South Carolina. Rick Dean leads a team of experts who will not disappoint. We understand how important your wedding photographs are, so we operate as if we were taking pictures of our own wedding.

Once your special day is over, our dedicated work is not. A former client put it best when she said, “You don’t just take the pictures, you take care of the pictures!” You will find this to be true once you see the results. We make sure to fine tune every shot, correcting and retouching as needed. Furthermore, we only deal with printers and album vendors who provide us with a “proofing profile.” This allows us to see on our monitors exactly what will be printed.

Although we require a signed contract, we realize you may change your mind about certain details, and we are certainly open to them. Rick Dean Photography aims to make your wedding photography experience as smooth and pleasant as possible. Give us a call and let us help you make your special day last forever.

What is your shooting style?

We shoot weddings with a blend of styles to make sure that we capture your wedding day story as you want it to be told. Sometimes that requires a photojournalism approach, other times a more traditional approach. But I think what sets us apart is we also employ
what we call “observationally directive”. What we mean is… there is magic in every moment. But sometimes one has to pull that magic out of a nervous bride or groom. We will do what needs to be done by asking a question or asking one of you to look there or
whisper this… all to make sure that “it” happens. Every great movie has a great director… why shouldn’t your wedding images have the same support. But at the end of the day, we hope you will say…”How did you do that?” If you have a minute, take a look at the video on my website. Its located just below the Welcome page on the navigation bar.

How far out should we reserve your services?

There is no set time. However, the average time is 6-9 months . If you are getting married on a Saturday in May or October I would suggest sooner as those dates may book 12-15 months out.

What do you require to secure a date?

All services require a signed contract and a paid retainer. The retainer is generally 50% of the total fees. However, I am open to your needs.

How many images will I get and how long does it take until we see them?

You will see highlights thru social media and blogging in about 3-4 weeks after your event. Please keep in mind that on your wedding day we may shoot anywhere from 2000-4000 images. It takes time to select the cull out the best, process and then fine tune the 450-800 “best of the best” images into your cherished wedding story. So please expect to see your complete wedding posted in approximately 8-10 weeks.  Sometimes sooner…. depends on the time of year.

I want the rights to images. How do I get that?

Some of our collections include high resolution images that include a license that gives the client the right to reproduce the photographs for their own personal use. However, the copyright for all images shot by Rick Dean Photography is maintained by us.

Do we own the copyright of the photos you take?

Well, not really. What you will receive with your thumb drive is the license (HOME USAGE RIGHTS) to print the photos for your our use, however you like, as many times as you like. I retain the copyright so you’ll need my permission if you want to sell your images, alter your images or enter them into any contests and other similar situations. Questions?? Just ask.

Bridal Portraits? Should I do one?

We love bridal sessions! It gives you a real time trial run for hair, make-up and to “wear” your dress to make sire it fits perfectly! From our POV, we also get many, many more images of the bride in multiple locations without being rushed to get to the reception.
These can be especially important if we have limited time after the ceremony.

What is a "First Look"?

A first look is when we set up a special time for the bride and groom to see each other before the ceremony begins. Sometimes this is just for the bride and groom, but some folks want their family and wedding party there as well. Not only does this alleviate some of the stress of the day and makes for some magical images, but it also creates a time to get some of those “required” family shots done beforehand so that you can enjoy more time with your guests after the ceremony.

I want to be able to print my wedding images myself, can we do that if we hire you?

Absolutely ! Most of our collections include high resolution images that include a license giving you the right to reproduce the photographs for your own personal use.

I do not want to print images myself, can you do it for us?

Absolutely! That is the beauty of working with Rick Dean Photography. You can have your wedding images any way YOU choose.
We have an e-commerce site where all your images will be posted and we are happy to process any print, enlargement, or canvas gallery wrap order you desire.

Can our friends and relatives order from you too?

ABSOLUTELY ! Send them on over, we are happy to help them.

What are your thoughts on Pinterest?

Pinterest has become the “go to” site for incredible wedding ideas. Heck, we “pin” our images all the time. But please know that Pinterest is about ideas and not copying other photographers work. So please share your Pinterest board if you like, but also know that we will only look at it before the wedding and use it as inspiration so that on your wedding day, we can create images that combine our talent, and creative point of view to reflect your magical day and your personality.

In the case of camera failure, inclement weather, or any other unforeseen incident that prevents Rick Dean Photography from shooting on a scheduled date the client will get a full refund of their deposit if applicable. No refund will be given under any circumstances if you fail to attend the activity on the day and at the time listed, when the booking was made.

A non-refundable retainer of 50% of your total package is required to reserve Rick Dean as your Photographer. The remaining balance of your package is due no later than four weeks prior to your wedding. Cash, checks, most credit cards will be accepted. Failure to pay the balance will constitute a reason for non-completion of the job by the photographer and loss of all monies paid by the Client with no liability to the Photographer. Written notice will be sent by the photographer that the contract is being canceled due to lack of payment.

If this contract is cancelled at any time before the wedding date by the fault of the Client, all monies, including any retainer and any other money paid in advance, will not be refundable except to the extent that the Photographer is able to mitigate damages by booking and being paid for a similar engagement of equal or greater value for that date. Any such cancellation by the Client must be in writing and sent by certified mail to the Photographer. If this contract is cancelled at any time before the wedding by the Photographer, any retainer and any other money paid in advance will be refunded to the Client.

Due to the custom pre-designed nature of these services, there are no refunds on any design order. Albums ordered are considered custom product therefore there are no refunds on any album orders. Flush Mount and Coffee Table Books are made to order and cannot be returned or exchanged unless: a manufacturer defect is evident and reported within 48 hours (2 business days) from the date it was received, damaged during shipping ( a separate claim must be filed with the shipping carrier and also must be reported within 48 hours after being received.) , or in the event that the order was erroneously processed such as an error was made on the size of the book or color/style, compared to the original recorded order. Given that clients are required to verify and approve all information printed in the album or book, there are absolutely no refunds for typographical errors, including but not limited to incorrect information, misspelled words or word omissions. Please make your selection carefully before ordering and if you have any questions, please call me at 843-822-0371.

Due to the nature of digital photography and the fact that photographs, once sent, cannot be returned; Rick Dean Photography has a strict NO REFUNDS POLICY. Once a transaction has been completed (i.e., the buyer selected and paid for the photo and then Rick Dean Photography sent the buyer the correct photograph) it is then considered non-refundable. If a buyer has selected and purchase an incorrect photo, he/she must notify Rick Dean Photography, before receiving the “incorrect” photograph. Refunds will NOT be given due to “not liking a photo”, selecting an incorrect photo after the buyer has already received the photograph, or any other reason. If a mistaken photo is sent to the buyer, as documented on the invoice, Rick Dean Photography will send the correct photo to the buyer free of charge.

All prints and products are subject to your state sales tax and shipping when applicable. Due to the nature of custom photography, all sales are final.
